SCS SB 496 -- CORRECTIONS OFFICER CERTIFICATION COMMISSION

SPONSOR: Mayer (Kelly)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Corrections and Public Institutions by a vote of 9 to 0.

This substitute removes the Corrections Officers Certification
Commission's ability to require a job task analysis be made of
jailers.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2006, FY 2007, and
FY 2008.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that it has been determined that the
job descriptions for corrections officers and jailers are
different and that the training standards for jailers should be
established by the local authorities.

Testifying for the bill were Senator Mayer; and Missouri Sheriffs
Association.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
